Jayne and I met at UCLA and have been married 41 years. We have 3 children and 6 grandkids. I became a Christian while attending UC Santa Cruz in 1977 and transferred to UCLA in my junior year and joined AGO (a Christian fraternity at UCLA), which is how I met Jayne.

I have a BS in Chemistry and worked for 38 years in various technical sales and sales management positions servicing the food industry. Jayne and I moved around a bit due to my work and we always seemed to land at a smaller church and get involved in the Sunday School and nursery areas.

I have served in several different areas at Foothills. We taught Sunday School early on. Jayne and I joined and then became leaders of the Billy Graham Telephone ministry for several years. Foothills decided to stop participating in this ministry in 2016 after approx. 10 years. I served on the worship team from 2009-2015 and recently rejoined that team. Jayne and I have also led the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox ministry along with several in our life group. I have led a Sunday morning Bible study (Word 101) and currently lead a life group that meets on Friday evenings. I have been an elder 2 times now, September 2016-2021 and in the current term which started in June 2022.

Jayne and I came to Foothills in 1998. We had returned to California from 4 years in the Philadelphia, PA area. We initially went to a church we had attended before moving away from Mission Viejo in 1988. That was not the right fit and we remembered that Dan Schaffer had started a church in RSM. We came and felt like we fit right in. We love that Foothills is a family, a praying church and has always had solid Bible teaching. Our kids grew up attending this church, I continue to be challenged to grow in this church.

Diane and I have been married for 48 years, we have two children and 6 grandchildren. I came to Christ at age 38 after years of trying to find significance in my career, status, and money. The pursuit of those things left me empty and disillusioned. In desperation I asked God, if he was real, to show Himself strong on my behalf. He answered that prayer and transformed my life. In His grace He led me to Bible Study Fellowship where I studied the bible for the first time and came to understand the gospel. He gave me an eternal perspective and a new heart that desired to serve Him. I am humbled that He chose me and pulled me out of a deep spiritual pit.

I graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Public Relations and worked in sales in the packaging industry. I was Director of Sales for a Fortune 500 company and loved selling plastic packaging!

After coming to Christ we found out about the Jesus Film Project and began giving financially to the ministry. One day someone from Jesus Film called to thank us for a gift and they asked how they could pray for me. I told them that I wasted many years as a non believer chasing what the world said would satisfy. I asked for prayer that God would allow me to serve Him in some way. They invited me to talk to someone at Jesus Film and three years later I left my career and joined Jesus Film as full time supported staff.  We retired from Jesus Film in December 2020 but are still volunteering with Jesus Film's Director's Development Board and in other capacities, as needed.

I also volunteered in Jr. High, High School and College ministry at my previous church and at Foothills Church. I currently lead a men's discipleship group and co-lead a life group at Foothills Church.

After studying the bible at Bible Study Fellowship, I had a desire for more in depth bible teaching. The church I was attending had topical sermons and I was looking for a church that taught through the entire bible. We found Foothills Church in 2002 and have been blessed and encouraged by the teaching of God's Word.  We love the church family that God has assembled and the way the body of Christ works together at Foothills to help each other walk in a manner worthy of our calling as followers of Jesus. I am thankful for Foothills Church!

I grew up in Santa Clarita as the middle child in a family of five. Though my family was nominally Christian, God graciously blessed me with a beautiful and loving family to grow up in. It wasn’t until I was 19 years old when the Lord drew me to Himself and I trusted Christ after a period of intense searching. I am 44 now, so I have been walking with Jesus for 25 years! Currently single, with no kids, and no previous marriage, I aim to spend my life as a steward of all the good gifts God has given to me.

In terms of education, I have an Associates degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor’s degree in Bible Exposition, and a Master’s of Divinity from The Master’s University. My work experience consists of 10 years on staff at a church overseeing Children’s Education and Community Groups. I also taught Math & Bible at a private Christian school for a number of years. Currently, I am the Chief Operations Officer of a software development company called Fishermen Labs.

Ministry experience for me includes leading various bible studies, overseeing a youth outreach program to a low income community, leading the Christian Education and Community Group programs at a previous church, sitting on an elder board for a number of years as a non-elder, along with various mission trips to countries such as Haiti where we built shelters after an earthquake, Canada, and India where we taught a pastor’s conference to a few hundred pastors.

At Foothills Church, I have attended weekly Bible studies taught by Tom Cannavino and Steve Poblete, men’s breakfasts, and men’s retreats. Cameron Burns and I are currently leading the Welcome Team ministry. And on occasion I also play the drums for the worship team.

I believe that God has tremendously good plans for Foothills Church, and that He is going to shape each of us more and more into the image of His Son. I’ve been excited to learn from the teaching and get to know others at the church in an effort to mutually encourage one another. A transformed body of believers can have an immense impact on our world. I am excited to be a part of and contribute to that.

Roger Horning

Roger Horning, became the Lead Pastor at Foothills Church in 2019. He became a Christian during the last week of his senior year in high school and began working with junior high students in his church youth group almost immediately. Michele came to know the Lord as an adult when a co-worker shared the gospel with her. Roger and Michele met in their 20’s when they served together as leaders in their church’s youth ministry. They have four children all of whom have served at Foothills church. Roger is a dedicated Bible teacher with a clear passion for ministering to families. His top ministry priorities are preaching, discipleship, and leadership development. Roger holds a bachelor’s degree in Bible with an emphasis in youth ministry from The Master's University, a Masters of Divinity from The Master’s Seminary, and he is ordained in the Evangelical Free Church of America. He and his wife have been serving in full-time ministry for more than half his life.

I am thankful and blessed to be saved at a young age, over 30 years ago, and to grow up in a Christian home.  My wife Hayley and I have been married for fourteen years, as of May 31st.  We have six children ranging from twelve to our one year old twins.  One of the biggest test of our faith is when we lost our third child, Theo, who’s heart failed, which was related to his genetic disorder, named Smith-Lemli-Optiz Syndrom (SLOS). This is the same genetic disorder that our youngest son has.  Through this our faith in God, our reliance on Him, and trust in His sovereignty has truly grown.

I have Bachelor of Science, Information Technology, and for almost the last nine years, I’ve work for Blue Letter Bible, as the IT Manager and iOS Developer.

Currently I lead a life group that meets on Mondays, and have been doing so for over three years.  I have also participated in helping with a men’s retreat and taught a men’s breakfast. I have been blessed by the Men’s breakfasts and Tom’s discipleship group.

A little over four years ago I was looking for a new church for my family.  After meeting with a few pastors in the area, Hayley and I had narrowed it down to two churches, but couldn’t really decide.  Then a co-worker of mine, suggested that I try Foothills.  So I met with pastor Roger, and we tried it out and stayed. We are very thankful we did too, for we have been greatly loved and cared for by many of you here.  It has been a true blessing to be a part of this church family.

Born in Hawaiian Gardens California, we then moved to a small town in Shippensburg Pennsylvania where I grew up. I worked my way through college and was given international opportunity to work in the Philippines where I met and married Christine Joy (CJ); We now have 4 boys age six to sixteen.  After moving back to Torrance, CA, A neighbor invited our kids to VBS. The church began to pray for us and through a bible study they offered in our neighborhood, we came to Christ and were baptized.

I graduated from Shippensburg University, with a bachelor’s in Business Science and Administration. I worked for Citi Bank Citi as an operations manager in the sales department.  I currently Wells Fargo where I serve as a financial advisor. My greatest desire is to have a gospel centered work life.

Due to our strong desire for our family to actively engage in Bible study, fellowship, and community outreach, particularly during the season of raising our four young children, we searched for a church closer to where we live. Our search for a local church that faithfully teaches God’s word through expository preaching on Sundays and offers growth Bible studies throughout the week for both adults and youth, led us to Foothills.

In the past, I have served in the worship ministry, cleaning the church facility, and been involved in leadership training.  Since coming to Foothills, I have served in VBS, Sunday School, as a youth leader. I also help my wife in her role as CE coordinator. I have also been blessed to be a part of Tom Cannavino’s discipleship group, the men’s bible study, and a LifeGroup.

I praise God for Foothills and have established bonds with many of the members and enjoy fellowship outside of Sunday’s. This is truly an answered prayer. Foothills is filled with Christians who regularly engage, encourage, and keep our family accountable as brothers and sisters in Christ. My family has grown into ministry in ways we had not expected. We praise God that our oldest son came to faith here and was baptized last year. This church family was instrumental in his decision to follow Christ. My wife and I are passionate in reaching the younger generation for Christ. I look forward expectantly for what God is doing in Foothills church and pray that He continues to use our church for His glory!

I have been married for 18 years this June 11 and have been blessed with two daughters. Although I had grown up in the church, I had not truly understood, nor received the truth from Scripture to be saved. On my 23rd birthday, I decided to pray, and in that prayer God showed me both the depths of my sin as well as the amazing love and grace that can only be found at the cross. Since then I have been dedicated to Christ and have been joyously following my Savior.

I received a bachelor’s degree in English in 2005, a masters in secondary education in 2009, I have been a Drama and English teacher since 2005. My wife and I have served in children’s ministry for the past 11 years. I now work as a youth Director at Foothills Church.

Since coming to FCRSM, I have served and participated in the youth ministry, and children’s ministry for the last few years, I was also a co-planner and helper to Pastor Craig with the summer, outreach events and VBS.

My family came to Foothills because we were looking for a church body to invest our lives and time with. We were looking specifically for a church that believed the Bible and taught it fully and faithfully. Foothills church has given much more to our family that we have been able to give. From help with my daughter’s scoliosis brace, to the encouraging and loving brothers and sisters, who have come alongside Sara and me, to the ladies that serve with our daughters in the children’s ministry, we love the church, and are excited to be here.
